How old does my child need to be to attend?
Children must be 3 years old by August 31 and potty-trained to be eligible to attend our preschool.

What are the different days and times that school is offered?
Two-day sessions will meet every Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday-Thursday; three-day sessions will meet every Monday-Wednesday-Friday. The hours are 8:30 to 11:00 and 12:00 to 2:30. Our five-day session will meet Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday-Friday from 8:30 to 11:00. Our closing due to bad weather (snow, ice, etc.) will comply with the Johnson County Catholic Schools.

How early can I drop off my child in the morning?
The Early Drop Off Program is provided to those parents who need care for their child before the preschool program begins.  Our doors open at 7:30 a.m.  The staff assists your child to the classroom at 8:20 for the preschool day.  See the fee schedule for cost.  If you have children at Holy Cross School, be sure to mention that to the director.

Is there an extended-day program?
Extended Care is our program that provides care anywhere from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for children enrolled in the preschool program. Check the pricing schedule for cost.

How does drop-off work?
Holy Cross EEC provides a special dropoff and pickup car line for its families.  Beginning at 8:20 a.m. and 11:55 a.m., just in time for the preschool classes to begin, staff members greet your child in your vehicle and escort your child to the building. Then, at preschool dismissal time, staff members bring your child to your vehicle. If you prefer to walk your child to the classroom or pick your child up inside at dismissal, you are welcome to do so.

How big are the classes?
The 3-year-olds have no more than 12 per teacher. The 4- and 5-year-olds have 12 children per teacher. Transitional Kindergarten will have 16 children and 2 teachers. A child who turns 4 before September 1 is placed in the 4-year-old class. The 5-year-olds are the children going on to Kindergarten the following year.

When is registration?
Open registration for the upcoming school year starts the day after our open house, which is the first Sunday in February. All students must pay a $50.00/$80.00 registration fee at this time. For registered Holy Cross parishioners, the fee is $50.00. For non-parishioners, the fee is $80.00. This fee is non-refundable.

Is Holy Cross a licensed preschool?
Yes. Holy Cross Early Education Center is licensed by the State of Kansas and sustains all of its requirements. All staff members of our school are experienced and either degreed or certified teachers. Early Childhood training is ongoing. All staff members are certified in first aid and CPR.

Does Holy Cross provide lunch?
If your child is scheduled to stay for Lunch Bunch, please plan on sending a lunch with your child. We eat between 11:15 and 12:00. A cold pack in your child’s his/her lunchbox will help keep the food fresh. The EEC provides milk for your child at no cost.

Does the preschool provide snacks?
Parents will be assigned a day per month to bring snacks. Each child provides nutritious snacks for his/her class only. Some snack suggestions are apples, oranges, bananas, raisins, graham crackers and cookies. If you send apples or oranges, half per child is sufficient. Drink and paper products are provided by the EEC. This assignment will be on the child’s monthly calendar. The EEC provides snacks for Extended Day classes.

Do you take field trips?
Our only field trip as a preschool is to Deanna Rose Farmstead in May. Parents will be asked to help at this time. All children go by bus and will be fastened in a seat belt. All other programs – storyteller, puppet shows, etc. – are brought to the preschool.

What is the center’s philosophy on disciplining children?
We strive to create a classroom community that promotes positive social problem solving skills. At times it will be necessary to guide the children in making better choices about their behavior. We will remain positive using these four techniques:

  1. Restate – restate what the child needs to do or ask the child to restate what was asked of him/her
  2. Redirect – redirect the child’s behavior
  3. Redo – have the child try again or give the child an opportunity to make the correct choice about his/her behavior
  4. Reassure – making the child aware that his/her choice was appropriate

At times, a time out or cooling off period may be warranted. We do this while keeping in mind the best interest of your child and all the children involved.

Where is Holy Cross Early Education Center located ?
