Fourth graders discovered that science is a key to understanding the gift of creation and the Divine revelations found therein. God’s first words in Genesis, “Let there be light,” led to the discovery that light is synonymous with life. Light from the sun warmed the Earth, enabled evaporation, and established the water cycle. Plants produced food through photosynthesis and created a perfect place for people. The light of THE Son dispelled the darkness of sin, opened the gates of heaven, and made eternal life possible. The words from Psalm 46, “Be still and know that I am God,” added a twist to exploring sound. As they learned about waves, frequency, amplitude, and pitch, they found they are bombarded by sound. Too much sound can make it hard to hear. They discovered, however, that the voice of God is always near. They simply need to turn the volume of the world down. During Lent, the fourth graders are taking time to sit down, be still, and listen to God whisper to their hearts.
